Birthplace of Ekiden Monument
- Architecture
- Monument
This stone monument commemorates the 100th anniversary of the origin of the Ekiden. It commemorates the 514 km race, which took place 100 years ago in 1917, covering 23 sections from Sanjo Ohashi Bridge in Kyoto to Shinobazu Pond in Tokyo. The difference in the processing of the white granite, which has been water-polished and polished with a brass hammer, and the polished black granite, gives the stone a sleek form yet a presence that is unique to stone. The same stone monument is installed in two locations: in front of the subway entrance at Kawabata-Sanjo and in front of the start gate at Nishikyogoku Stadium.
